We are pleased to announce that last Friday, 10/11/2024, on behalf of the newly elected Board of Directors, our Social Secretary, Ms. Lmya Ahmed, among other Sudanese in the DMV diaspora, participated in a significant roundtable discussion with U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, and Senator Mark Warner. The meeting focused on the ongoing crisis in Sudan, stopping war and bringing peace, increasing humanitarian aid in Sudan, and the vital concerns of our diaspora.

During the discussion, Ms. Ahmed highlighted the pressing issues faced by Sudanese Americans and their families, including the urgent need for family reunification and increased humanitarian assistance for Sudan. Special attention was given to supporting refugees and newcomers adjusting to life in the United States. The board emphasized the importance of offering resources and settlement support to Sudanese Americans, helping them navigate their new lives while maintaining ties to their homeland.

Additionally, there was a strong commitment from all parties to continue these conversations, to provide sustained support to the Sudanese American community, and to explore ways to increase humanitarian efforts in Sudan.
